0535 - Biochemical Markers of Bone Metabolism in a Stable Canine Model of Early Periprosthetic Osteolysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: It has been reported recently that urine concentrations of cross-linked N-telopeptides of type I collagen (NTX), a marker of bone resorption, may be elevated in total hip replacement patients with radiographic evidence of periprosthetic osteolysis (1). However, it remains unclear whether bone markers possess the sensitivity to detect early, non-radiographic osteolysis. In the present study, we test the hypothesis that serum concentrations of cross-linked C-telopeptides of type I collagen (ICTP), and urine concentrations NTX and deoxypyridinoline (Dpd), all markers of bone resorption, possess the ability to detect non-radiographic bone loss in a previously described canine model of early periprosthetic osteolysis (2). The concentration of bone specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP) was measured as an indicator of bone formation.

Particle Disease: A Current Review of the Biological Mechanisms in Periprosthetic Osteolysis After Hip Arthroplasty
BACKGROUND Inflammatory responses to wear debris cause osteolysis that leads to aseptic prosthesis loosening and hip arthroplasty failure. Although osteolysis is usually associated with aseptic loosening, it is rarely seen around stable implants. Aseptic implant loosening is a simple radiologic phenomenon, but a complex immunological process. Particulate debris produced by implants most commonl...

Total hip arthroplasty [THA] is one of the most successful and effective procedures developed for the treatment of pain and lack of mobility associated with end-stage arthritis such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Approximately 1.5 million joint arthroplastic operations are performed annually worldwide. THA, although considered an excellent surgical procedure, can be complicated by ...

Aseptic loosening and periprosthetic osteolysis are major problems in artificial hip joint surgery, for which a solution has yet to be found. Biological host response to wear debris combined with cyclic mechanical loading onto the bone bed around hip prosthetic implants has been considered as mechanism responsible for implant-mediated periprosthetic osteolysis. Any type of artificial joint glidi...
متن کاملBisphosphonate treatment for osteolysis in total hip arthroplasty. A report of four cases.
Aseptic loosening due to wear debris is the most frequent modality of failure in total hip arthroplasty. Bisphosphonates, a class of molecules which inhibit bone resorption showed an inhibitory effects on particles-induced osteolysis in vitro and in animal models. We report the clinical, radiographic and densitometric outcome of four postmenopausal women with total hip arthroplasty affected by ...

Background and Aims: Physical activity and blood flow restriction (BFR) training can affect bone metabolism. This study aimed to investigate the effect of a plyometric exercise session with and without blood flow restriction on bone metabolism markers, such as bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) and C-terminal telopeptide of type 1collagen (CTX), as the markers of bone formation and destruction, ...
